The
Post the Finances
initiative continues. The dream is alive.
The California
statewide initiative process has now reached
its second phase. The copy of the final initiative
was sent overnight by FEDEX to Tricia Knight,
the Initiative Coordinator in the California
State Attorney's office of Bill Lockyer. Included
was a request for Title and Summary for the
initiative; the $200 fee; Steve Mozena’s
full name and address as the proponent, and
the signed statement under the Elections Code
Section 9608. A copy of the initiative will
now be forwarded by the State Attorney's office
to the Department of Finance and the Joint Legislative
Budget Committee for a fiscal impact study.
Once this process
has been completed, the petitions will be distributed.
A total of 373,816 signatures are required for
the initiative to be placed on the November
2004 ballot.
This coming
week Mozena begins another
phase of his Post
the Finances activities when
he meets with representatives of other Californian
cities to explain the idea to them. He is determined
to continue his campaign until he finds receptive
listeners, officials who are ready and willing
to take action on "Post
the Finances" on behalf
of their city, county or state governments.
