While there
we said a brief hello to former Governor Pete
Wilson and chatted with Duf Sundheim, chairman
of the California Republican party.
On
the night before the inaugural, I spoke at
length with actor Tom Arnold. I had met Tom
a number of times before, at premiere parties
and the Emmy Awards. He is one of the nicest
and most down-to-earth actors I have met.
He remembered me from when I had placed advertisements
as an actor on bus benches strategically in
front of all the Hollywood Studios. This was
when I was wanting to break into show biz.
I acted on Ted Turner’s dictum: "Early
to bed, early to rise, work hard and advertise."
I explained
Post the Finances
to Tom and he emphatically and enthusiastically
said he would mention it to Governor Schwarzenegger.
Then he had to get ready for the party at
the Sheraton Grand, just a couple of blocks
from the Hyatt. We saw him there again later.
During
their morning news show, KMAX UPN 31, a local
TV station, had caught both Tom and me taking
a photo together at the party. Also in the
report were Rob Reiner and Rob Lowe. I spoke
to both of them about the initiative as well.
Mr. Reiner said he had already surfed to my
site.
There
were many ladies who wanted to be photographed
with Rob Lowe. I helped organize photos with
him so that everyone got what they wanted.
Mr. Lowe was very patient. He gave me a wink
and a smile that said, ‘it's okay, they're
my fans, I don't mind’. Mr. Lowe's a
nice guy.
Once in the party, I met many old acquaintances
and made some new ones. These included former
Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan, Bob Smith,
former chief of staff of Pete Wilson; California
Legislator Kevin McCarthy; and Congressman
David Dreier.
To
my surprise, I also saw Monsignor Lloyd Torgerson,
the pastor of the Catholic church I started
attending in 1990. Governor Schwarzenegger,
former Los Angeles Richard Riordan and former
gubernatorial candidate Bill Simon attend
that church as well. Monsignor Torgerson gave
the Invocation at the Inauguration.
