Welcome to Lincoln State
Welcome
to the official State of Lincoln Web site.
Lincoln
is a fictional state, created to help you understand
how Post the Finances would work in practice. The
state of Lincoln made history by becoming the first
state in the nation to post its finances to the Internet.
A message from Lincoln’s Governor: "We take our
state motto, ‘Fiscal Honesty Is The Best Policy’
very seriously. We value the input of our citizens,
who can now, on the state's Web site, follow the trail
of all of the state's revenues and expenditures, in
and out of all state government departments and agencies.
Like the great man 'Honest Abe,' after whom our state
is named, we believe fiscal honesty is above all for
the benefit of our citizens.

The state of Lincoln declares June 4 to be Post
the Finances Day, to commemorate the
day in 2004 when it first adopted Post
the Finances. The
purpose of Post the Finances Day is to
educate the public about how Post
the Finances works, and to encourage
other states, counties, and cities to adopt
it. Events scheduled for Post
the Finances day statewide include parades
and fairs, TV news and radio broadcasts and
articles in the press explaining how the system
works and how citizens can play their part in
overseeing state finances, virtually conducting
daily audits of the state.
